Description:
Candy Sand Art is a twist to the traditional sand art. Pixie Stix, the sugar colored candy, is used as the "sand" and the pins and clappers are used to hold the "sand". The Pixie Stix come in a variety of colors like purple, blue, red, and orange so the tweens/teens can just pick how they would like to put the colors in. Some of them did it the same colors as the clappers or pins, and some just alternated colors. Once they are finished putting the "sand" in they just close the top and they have a candy sand art clapper or pin.
Materials Needed:
Sand Art Clappers (orientaltrading.com)
Super Sand Art Pins (orientaltrading.com)
Pixie Stix (Dollar Store)
cardboard box (incase sand spills)
Tables (to hold all supplies)
Radio (to create background noise)
Cost:
The total cost would be about $20.00 depending on the the amount the program is limited to or the amount of candy you would want to purchase.
The sand art clappers and super sand art pins can be purchased on orientaltrading.com for about $16.00 and the candy (pixie stix) can be purchased at most dollar stores.
Room Setup:
The room does not have to be set up any particular way. I put out long tables without chairs so the tweens/teens could stand around the table while filling their containers and I put the Pixie Stix out on the table so they would not have to look in the bag. I also put on the radio to create background noise, I also found it broke the ice.
